This Privacy Policy explains how Alisa - Learn Vocabulary (“Alisa,” “we,” or “us”) handles information when you use our iOS app. We are a small team at Alisa Labs (alisalabs.app), and we have designed Alisa to respect your privacy by collecting as little as possible — in fact, we do not collect any personal data from you at all.
The short version
- No account or sign-up required.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDKs.
- Your learning progress is stored on your device, and — only if you enable it — synced through your own Apple iCloud using CloudKit.
- We (Alisa Labs) never see or store your data.
Information we do not collect
Alisa is intentionally built without:
- Personal information (name, email, phone number, address)
- Account credentials or profiles
- Analytics or crash-reporting that sends data to us
- Advertising identifiers or third-party ads
- Purchase information (the app is free, with no in-app purchases)
Because we do not collect this information, we have nothing to sell, share, or leak.
Data you create (your vocabulary progress)
The app tracks your learning progress — the words you study, your spaced repetition schedule, streaks, and quiz results. This data belongs to you and is used only to run the app's features for you.
iCloud and CloudKit sync
If you use iCloud sync, your progress is stored in the private CloudKit database of your own iCloud account. This means:
- The data is synced between your own Apple devices.
- It is governed by Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy, not ours.
- We do not have access to your CloudKit data, and it is never transmitted to our servers.
If you do not use iCloud sync, all progress stays entirely on your device.
Local storage and notifications
- Settings and preferences are stored locally on your device (UserDefaults).
- Optional daily reminders are scheduled as local notifications on your device. We do not see or store these, and you can turn them off at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.
- Pronunciation audio is generated on your device by Apple's built-in speech engine; nothing is uploaded.
Children's privacy
Alisa is a general-audience educational app. It is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will promptly remove it.
Data retention and deletion
Because your data lives on your device and in your own iCloud account, you control it:
- Delete the app to remove it from your device.
- To delete synced data, delete the app's data from your iCloud (or delete the app from all your devices).
- There is nothing stored on our side to delete.
Security
We do not store or transmit your data, so there is no dataset for us to protect. Any data you sync via iCloud is protected by Apple's standard iCloud encryption and security measures.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, if the changes are significant, we will notify you within the app. Continued use of Alisa after changes means you accept the updated policy.
